Summer Brooke Gomez & Diane Donahue are Woodgate Neighbors of the Year

Two long-time Woodgate residents are being honored as 2024 Woodgate Neighbors of the Year – Summer Brooke Gomez and Diane Donahue. The honors were announced at the Annual Meeting on January 29 at Dorothy Oven Park by WNA President Matt Schreck. The selection was by the Woodgate Neighborhood Association Board.

The first NOY award went to Summer Brooke Gomez, recognizing her substantial service in offering to make soup for neighbors in need. Summer graciously made and delivered, with the help of her husband Joe, 60 meals of her delicious vegetable beef soup to Woodgate residents experiencing health challenges in 2024.

Summer, who lives on Woodgate Way, has been a resident of Woodgate since 2013. She joined our Neighbors Helping Neighbors committee at its inception in 2019.  The service Summer offered was to make soup for neighbors in need.   One resident described the soup as "amazing!”

The next award was for Diane Donahue, who also lives on Woodgate Way. Following the unexpected death of a neighbor, Steve Recbich, Diane arranged the adoption of one of Steve’s dogs, Lucky, and personally adopted his other dog, Lilly, as her family pet.

Lilly needed veterinary care and, eventually, surgery for cancer. An appeal was extended to our Woodgate neighbors to help pay the surgery expense. In true Woodgate form, residents generously donated $680. Diane reports that Lilly is recovering nicely.

Chris & Colleen Williams are Holiday Lighting Contest 2024 Winner

The holiday lighting in our Woodgate Neighborhood was bigger and better than ever this December, but one home was especially fine. The winners of the 2024 Holiday Lighting Contest are Chris and Colleen Williams at 1519 Oldfield Drive.

Judging took place December 19 by Marsha Vandendooren and Kelly Logan, two members of the Woodgate Neighborhood Association Board.

July 4 Celebrated with New American Flag on the Woodgate Island

From Kelly Logan

I have been noticing lately that Old Glory on the island has been looking well... pretty old. The blue had faded to purple, the white to gray etc. Also the flag clips were broken and the bottom grommet of the flag was not even attached to the rope anymore.

To celebrate America's 248th birthday this July 4th, and to express my appreciation for living in such a great neighborhood with amazing neighbors. I wanted to donate a new flag.

The last few times we replaced the flag we've used a 3X5 size that was donated to us by Marpan. I've always felt that size was too small for the large flag pole we have. Therefore I hope it is acceptable to everyone that I replaced it with the 4X6 size we used to use. I also replaced the old plastic flag clips and zip ties that were holding the old flag to the rope with durable new metal flag clips properly spaced for a 4X6 flag.

So happy July 4th to everybody. If you are traveling for the holiday be safe, and may  everybody have fun!
